Recruiters search LinkedIn hundreds of times per day. Here is how to show up and stand out.
Headline: More than your job title "Software Engineer" is boring. "Software Engineer | Building fintech products that reach 10M+ users | Open to senior roles" is not. Pack your headline with keywords and value.
Photo: Professional but human A clear, recent headshot with a neutral background. Profiles with photos get 21x more views. Smile.
About section: Lead with impact Start with your strongest achievement, not "I am a passionate professional." Two to three paragraphs max. End with a call to action ("Open to opportunities in X").
Experience: Achievements, not duties Every role should have 3-5 bullet points starting with action verbs and including at least one number. Same rules as your CV.
Skills: 50 is the maximum LinkedIn's algorithm uses your skills for search ranking. Add all 50. Prioritize skills that match your target roles.
Open to Work: Use it The green "Open to Work" banner does not hurt you with current employers (you can hide it from them). It does help you show up in recruiter searches.
Activity: Post once a week Sharing insights, commenting on posts, and writing articles increases your visibility in the algorithm. You do not need to go viral โ consistent activity is enough.
Recommendations: Ask for two One from a manager, one from a peer. Specific recommendations ("She shipped X and it resulted in Y") are worth far more than generic ones.
